Story 1 of 3151 words

Alex and his friend Jan went on a class trip to the big hall in town. Inside were huge frames of creatures from long ago. The first one had a jaw as long as a car. "Look at those claws," Jan said. Alex read the sign next to it. It said the creature had lived millions of years in the past. They walked to the next room. A creature with huge wings hung from the roof. Jan took a picture of it. "That one could fly," she said. Alex saw a nest of eggs behind glass. The eggs were the size of his head. "I wish I could have seen these things when they were still here," Alex said. Jan nodded. They spent the rest of the day going from room to room. By the end, Alex had filled his whole note pad with drawings. It was the best class trip he had ever been on.

Story 2 of 3147 words

Alex and her friend Lee went to a dig site on the edge of town. A group of people were brushing sand off something huge. Alex got closer. It was a jaw with rows of sharp bits. "That is from a creature that lived long ago," the dig chief said. Lee picked up a brush and helped. He brushed sand off a claw that was as long as his arm. Alex found a small piece of wing near the edge. "This must have been a flying creature," she said. The dig chief smiled. "Good find," he said. They worked until the sun went down. Alex put her find in a small bag. Lee took pictures of the jaw. On the way home, Alex held the wing piece in her hand. "One day I want to run my own dig site," she said. Lee grinned. "I will be on your crew," he said.

Story 3 of 3152 words

Alex was reading a book about creatures from the past. The pages had drawings of huge things with sharp claws and long tails. Her friend Max sat down next to her. "What are you reading?" he asked. Alex held up the book. "These creatures were the biggest things that ever lived," she said. Max pointed at a picture of a creature with a huge jaw. "That one could eat a truck," he said. Alex laughed. They turned to a page about a creature that lived in the sea. It had a long neck and fins like wings. "That is my pick," Alex said. "It looks like it could swim fast." Max liked the one with the biggest claws. They spent the whole afternoon going through the book. By the end, they each had a list of their top five creatures. Alex and Max planned to go to the big hall in town to see the real things.
