Cookies and Tracking

At LUCA ("LUCA," "we," "us," or "our"), we use cookies and similar technologies to make our site work, understand how visitors use it, and reach families, educators, and administrators who can benefit from an intelligent reading specialist for their child or their school. This page explains what those technologies do, how to control them, and how we treat children differently from adults.

This page is intended to be read together with our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information when you use our Services. By using luca.ai, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this page and our Privacy Policy.

If you have questions about cookies or tracking on luca.ai, please contact us at privacy@luca.ai.

1. Managing your preferences

When you first land on luca.ai, a consent banner appears at the bottom of the screen. You can:

  • Accept all to allow analytics and marketing cookies
  • Reject all to load only what we need for the site to function
  • Adjust by category through the Cookie Settings link in the footer at any time

Your choice is saved on your browser for twelve months. If we add a new tracking technology that materially changes what we collect, the banner reappears so you can review and decide again.

We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. If your browser sends GPC, we treat that as a "reject" for analytics and marketing without showing the banner.

2. Types of cookies we use

Strictly necessary

These are required for luca.ai to function. They cannot be disabled. They handle the things you would expect from a working website: remembering your consent choice so we do not re-prompt on every page, protecting forms from automated abuse, keeping your session active if you are signed in, and recording the page you first landed on so that a later form submission can be attributed to the right entry point. Nothing from this category is sold or shared with advertisers.

Analytics

Loaded only if you grant analytics consent. These help us understand how visitors move through luca.ai, which pages serve families well, and where readers get stuck. We work with Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity for this. We never use analytics data to identify individual children, and we never combine analytics data with student reading session data.

Marketing

Loaded only if you grant marketing consent. These allow us to reach parents, educators, administrators, and tutors with relevant information about LUCA and to measure whether our campaigns are working. We work with Meta (Facebook and Instagram), LinkedIn, Google Ads, and TikTok for this. We never advertise to students, and we never load marketing pixels inside the LUCA reading experience itself.

3. How long cookies stay

Most strictly necessary entries are cleared when you close your browser. A few last up to one year so we do not re-prompt for consent on every visit. Analytics cookies generally last from one day to two years depending on the provider. Marketing cookies generally last between thirty days and thirteen months. The full provider-by-provider breakdown is available through the Cookie Settings link in the footer.

4. Tracking in our emails

When we send you an email (program update, waitlist follow-up, newsletter), the email may include a small invisible image (a tracking pixel) and links that pass through our email service. These let us see whether the email was opened and whether links were clicked. We use this signal to learn which subject lines and topics resonate, and to stop sending email to addresses that show no engagement over time.

If you would rather not be tracked at the email level, every LUCA email includes an unsubscribe link, and most modern email clients (Apple Mail, Gmail with Privacy Protection turned on) block tracking pixels automatically.

5. Children and cookies

LUCA is built for readers ages five to fourteen. We take children's privacy seriously and we treat the children's reading experience differently from this marketing site.

  • This marketing site (luca.ai) is intended for adults: parents, educators, administrators, and tutors. Children should not be browsing here unsupervised.
  • The LUCA reading experience your child uses (a separate environment with its own URL) does not load analytics or marketing pixels. No Meta pixel, no Google Ads pixel, no LinkedIn tag, no TikTok pixel. Only the strictly-necessary technology required to keep your child's session running.
  • We do not build advertising profiles of children. We do not sell or share student data. We follow the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) for any data tied to a student account.

For more on how we handle student information, see our Children's Privacy Notice.

6. When this policy changes

We review this page whenever we add, remove, or change a tracking technology. Material changes (such as adding a new advertising partner) trigger a refresh of the consent banner so you can review and decide again. The version and last-updated stamps at the bottom of the page reflect the most recent review.
